Personality Development Camp for youth !

A personality Development Camp for the girl students of TVS Sundram School, Madurai, was organised by Chinmaya Yuva Kendra, Madurai on November 12,2011 (Saturday)..113 students with their 5 teachers participated in the camp.

Acharya Swami Sivayogananda, welcomed the students and briefed about the motto of this camp. Br. Sampoorna Chaithanya from Kodaikkanal, with a moral story started the camp..Sri Gopalsamy, trained the students with simple exercises and breathing techniques to develop the memory and concentration skills, of the students. Mrs. Mallika Sekar explained the 'valuable values ' to the students, in her motherly style. Acharya Swami Sivayogananda guided the students with his thought provoking talk, with the quotes from Tirukkural. The camp ended with a vote of thanks by Chyk Nirmala and Chinmaya Pledge.

Participants enjoyed trekking on the Nagamalai hills in the afternoon..They expressed their happiness & benefit of this camp, and also appreciated the organisors - Chinmaya Yuva Kendra members - thro' their feed back ... .

GEETA CHANTING COMPETITION – 2011

(Organized by Chinmaya Mission, Madurai)

Gita Chanting Competition Finals and Prize Distribution Function was organised by Chinmaya Mission, Madurai, on 6^th November (Sun day) under the able guidance of Acharya Swami Sivayogananda, at Sethupati High School. The competitions are being organized consecutively, for the past 13 years, in Madurai.

This year 7059 children from 20 schools have participated at the prelims level, out of which 261 were short listed for the finals. The contest was open for all the students from L.K.G to Std IX, who were split into five categories... A, B, C, D and E...In Group A, all the participants who recited the portions completely, were given Certificates and mementos.

For group B semi-finals & the finals were conducted on 5^th November (Saturday) at Chinmaya Mission and for the other Groups, the semi finals & finals were conducted at Setupathi High School, on 6^th November (Sunday) and the winners were selected,

Gifts worth of Rs.1,000, Rs.750 and Rs.500 (Wrist watches and Chinmaya Publication Books), were awarded to the winners of I, II and III places, respectively. Participation Certificates and mementos were given to all the children.

In the morning, Smt. Kala Karmegam Mani, inaugurated the function, by lighting the Lamp and the Chief guest Sri P. Karmegam Mani, B.E., (Managing Director, Solaimalai Automobiles ) gave the inaugural address. Sri M.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, President, Chinmaya Mission, Madurai presided over the function.Sri. Thilagar, Secretary, welcomed the gathering. Smt.Kanchana Mala, coordinator, submitted the report.

The Prize Distribution Function, was organized in the evening.. The prizes were given away by Sri P.S. Janardana Bapu,B.Tech., MBA.,[ Pathey JB Foundation] and Sri S. Balaji, Dy.Tahsildar, [temple lands] . The participated Schools and the School Coordinators were honored with the Gifts and Shields. Acharya Swami Sivayoganada, explained from Mahabharata, the greatness of Bhagawan Sri Krishna and also on the greatness of the Chapter Eleven , in Bhagawath Gita. The objective of this contest was to ensure that the message of the Bhagawath Gita to reach the children, at their young age, he explained.

The Judges, Devi Group Members, Volunteers were honored with the mementos. Sri Gopalsamy, Secretary, thanked the Donors, Sponsors, Judges, School Managements, Teachers, Parents, Children, Guests and the members of the Mission, Chinmaya Devi Group,and Chyks , for the success of this grand finale. Lunch and Biscuits / tea, were arranged to the visitors.

More than 60,000 children were trained to chant Gita Verses of various chapters and prizes were distributed to the winners. Not only the children, but also their parents learn Gita Slogams, to train their children! That means in addition to 60,000 children, 1,20,000 parents are also participating and join with us to know our Indian Culture and tradition...

Voluntary free service members from Chinmaya Yuva kendra members, Devi group, various Sanskrit Professors and many spiritual people, are joining, in this great event.

The organizers need money to provide necessary coaching materials, Sweets to the children, Certificates, Invitation, prizes at various levels, lunch to the students & Parents, tea, Biscuits, etc., during the long drawn activities, starting from June & ending with the finals by October , every year.

More than 100 students from different colleges, in and around Madurai, participated..

As suitably named "ATM - All Time Motivation" the resource persons discussed the different faces of the Motivational aspects, in all the three sessions.

Mr. Krishnamoorthy, president of the North west Rotary Club of Madurai , presided and inaugurated the camp.

In the first session " Motivation - Magic of Attitude"- Acharya Swami Sivayogananda, discussed the definition & basic types of Motivation and also highlighted the difference between enthusiasm and motivation. He has widely quoted the examples from Mahabaratha, Thirukkural and Bhagavad Gita., during the session.

The workshop on" PACT" was handled by Yuvaveer Mr. Ganesh and explained the PACT problems, PACT solutions and PACT Evolution, a concept developed by Chyks.

Prof. Govindasamy, Director, Mannar College, expalained the "Life Skills" that are most important for the students community, in the third session.. Chyk Janaki gave a presentation on "Heroes of our mother land 'Bharat' ..

A two days non-residential youth camp for the 10th and 12th students of Sri Saradha Vidhyavanam school, Madurai, was organized by Chinmaya Yuva Kendra members (CHYK) on June 11 and 12, 2011 at Chinmaya Mission, Madurai. 163 girls students were participated enthusiastically, in all the Sessions....

Acharya Swami Sivayogananda handled the sessions on the topics ' Creativity & Productivity' ["ஆக்கமும் ஊக்கமும்" ] and 'valuable values' , based on our scriptures and literature, on the first and second days, respectively..He quoted many stories & examples and made the Sessions a lively one. Sri Gopalsamy, Secretary of Chinmaya Mission highlighted the qualities of the successful personalities under the topic 'Discover the Success in you" and the benefits of yoga - 'Yoga - the mind booster'! Sri Ramu of M/s Chellamuthu Trust explained the Life skills and Dr. Girija a senior educationist & Retd. Prof., guided the youngsters, to overcome the exam- fear and gave tips to plan their studies, during the afternoon sessions.

The students and the faculty enjoyed all the Sessions and their feed-back was very encouraging.. They requested the Mission to organize such Youth Camps regularly for their betterment.

The CHYK members organized these two days events, in an excellent manner and appreciated by the participants also !

Our sacred Bharath possesses many holiest things and she keeps some still as a secret....

Those who venture are intoxicated with the bliss of the Divine. Thus the team of 50 lead by Acharya Swami Sivayogananda, left for yatra on May 25 and returned on June 5 -were the privileged lot to have darshan of Mathura, Brindhavan and Gokul. To see the cell where Sri Krishna was born, the place where Vasudev brought Him crossing Yamuna, the lanes that Sri Krishna took to evade the milk maids, the spot where He had the mystical dance with the Gopis are a few to quote. Priests and pilgrims swarm everywhere. Beyond words and beyond one’s mental grasp.

After a holy dip in Kosi river, the team proceeded to Jageshwar-which the mighty Himalayas keeps eternal guard.

Mrithyunjeshwar, Pushti Maatha, Vritha Jageshwar, Dandeshwar stand for spiritual evolution. The seekers sure to attain the crest of upward climb. The temple reveals the great Rishis who lived apart from the world. Rethpuri Baba was one such who emerge for a limited time to guide his disciples and disappeared again. The pandits in Jageshwar are humble in appearance and humbler still in more of living.

Dharukavan – symbolises the power of meditation-stands as a testimony of those Rishis who chose these inaccessible places for Thapas.

The functions were started with Sri Vigneshwara Pooja, Ganapathi Homam, Navagraha Homam, Sri Guru Dakshinamoorthy & Guru Bhagawan Moola Mandhira Homam and ends with Poornahudhi, abhishegam and special aarthi to Guru Dakshinamoorthy.

LEAD Balvihar Summer Camp - 2011 Mathroo Pooja and Valedictory functions were held on May 8, 2011 at Chinmaya Mission. Madurai. 98 students were enrolled, this year. Cultural programmes were organised by the children, in the presence of Acharya Swami Sivayogananda.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Kausalya Srinivasan, Correspondent, Akshara Matric. Hr. Secy. School, appreciated the students involvement & performances , Further she specially mentioned the effort and strain taken by the Devi Group and CHYKs, under the able guidance of Swami Sivayogananda, to train the campers. She offered her Institution's support in the possible way, in the coming year camps.

Mementos and certificates were distributed to the participants and volunteers. Some of the Parents expressed their happiness and requested Chinmaya Mission to extend the duration of the Camp for 15 days, next year, for the benefit of their children. Sumptuous food was offered as prasad to all the participants.

Points to ponder:

· Mind is an internal instrument endowed with knowledge.

· Who activates the mind/or by which the mind is activated?

· Prana sakthi stirs the sense organs as expressions of the mind.

· By which ‘prana’ is locked up, to stir the sense organs?

· Thus the sense organs & prana are the tools of the mind.

· The mind is insecure as it always revels on perishable objects.

· So the frequency of the mind should be increased towards ‘Reality’.

· THAT that remains as the base and illumines the speech, sight, taste, touch and hearing is inactive and unaffected.

· This experience cannot be expressed.

· The up-rightness / honesty of mind, words & actions gives one, the guidance of ‘guru’ the essential aspect of one’s life.

· Non-violence is ‘satyam’.. it is always victorious.

On 23^rd January visited Rajapalayam and in his address said that the vision of oneness integrated all scientific inventions and fostered national integration and patriotic fervor cutting across language, region, caste and creed barriers.

The book - stall had nearly 200 titles & quite a lot of CDs. The stall was swarmed with devotees. Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD) from Coimbatore branch had their exhibition cum sale. The bhajans by ‘Balavihar’ students won the appreciation from all, in general & Pujya Guruji in particular.

The panels displayed, facilitated the audience to know more about the Mission,. thanks to the apt guidance given by Swami Sivayogananda.. All the sponsors, donors & well-wishers were duly recognized, with mementos...Guruji’s devotion to Gurudev and Mission inspired us to spare more time to serve the Mission.

· Dependence is the signs of insecurity. This doesn't bring happiness.

· Independence, detachment, fearlessness and agelessness are ‘Sthitha Prajna Lakshna’.

· ‘Muni’ is one, who after sufficient contemplation, is ready to tread the path. He is steadfast.

· Ignorance is the cause of fear. Knowledge is the solution.

· As the tortoise walks in alertness, learn to withdraw from the sensual pleasures.

· ‘No’ should be strong.

· When one is committed for something higher, the sense organs are controlled.

· Desire leads to anger, delusion, lost memory and finally lose wisdom.

· Be aware of your likes and dislikes. Stay in that awareness.

· Practice detachment.

· It is a value to keep the mind in tranquil.

· Thus the wise is careless of the world. They are careful of the lord.

Thus the four days went on in listening, contemplating & experiencing the supreme Bliss ! Our gratitude to Gurudev for walking us from ignorance through these spiritual stalwarts of Chinmaya mission has no bounds.....

Hundreds of Devotees thronged Sri Dakshinamoorthy Sannadhi at Chinmaya Mission, Madurai, on Sunday (21.11.2010) for the "Guru Peyarchi" to offer prayers... The Guru peyarchi time was 10.54 as per almanac on Sunday night, but Devotees began arriving from as early as 6 a.m., to Chinmaya Mission, in spite of rains !

The poojas started at 7 a.m. with Vigneswara pooja and Ganapathy Homan followed by Navagraha Homam, Guru Dakshinamoorthy Moola Mandhra Homam, Abishekam and ends with special Aarthy . Guru Dakshinamoorthy was beautifully decorated with flowers, on this special event. Prasadams were distributed to the devotees..

Evening at 5 p.m. Dakshinamoorthy Sahasranama archana and Aarthy were performed ... pooja prasadams were presented to the visitors.. Large number of women and children were also participated among the devotees...

Chinmaya Seva Trust, Madurai, has organized a function at Sevashram, Madurai, in co-ordination with Bhakthar Peravai and the Rotary Club of Madurai North West, on October 31, (Sunday) to distribute free ’ Deepavali Dresses ’ to the inmates of the Ashram.

Sri T, Thilagar, Secretary, welcomed the gathering…Shri Pitchaimani, Auditor, Sri Gopalsamy, Joint Secretary, and Sri Krishnamoorthy, Treassurer, distributed the Dresses nearly to the 150 inmates of the Ashram... After brief addresses, by the Rotary Club and Bhakthar Peravai members, the students enjoyed the sumptuous dinner and the crackers! Members of Chinmaya Mission also participated, in this happy event.

The students and also the Sevashram authorities, thanked Acharya Swami Sivayogananda and Chinmaya Seva Trust, Madurai, for this gesture, on the eve of Deeepavali, every year

"GCC 2010 Finals & Prize Distribution Function"

'The Viboothi Yoga' - X Chapter of ‘Bagavad Gita’ was chanted in unison with great devotion by the participants of 'Gita chanting Competition' held on the most auspicious day - Vijayadasami Day, in Setupathy Hr.Sec.School, Madurai, on 17.10.2010.

Presided by Sri. M.S.Meenakshisundaram, the President of the 'Chinmaya Mission', the function started with lighting of 'Mangala vilakku' by Mrs. Padmalakshmi Seetharaman. Sri Gopalsamy Co-ordinator of the event, presented the report, while Acharya Sivayogananda, explained the details of the Competition. Lion Sri. SP. Annamalai, (Past Lions Governor) in his inaugural address, felicitated the sacred task of the Mission & the parents who play a vital role in motivating their wards. 'A right works in the right direction'..

Quarterly Magazine of Chinmaya Mission, Madurai, 'Chinmaya Meenakshi' was also released on this occasion.

The Prize Distribution Function was at 3 pm & the winners received fabulous I, II and III prizes (Titan Watches & Books) among thundering applaud, from Sri N. Srinivasan Exe. Director, M/s Reyvish Associates, Sri R. Premkumar, Premraj Furniture and Auditor Sri G. Pitchaimani. respectively. The participant schools, school co-ordinators, Judges, and sevaks, were also honored with the mementoes...Swami Sivayogananda in his key-note address gave the essence of the X chapter, of Sri Bagavad Gita.

The students & parents buzzing around the campus, bee-lining the book-stall, enjoying the grand lunch, and the Mission members, CHYKS & Devi group cascading the whole event was a feast to the eyes.

The Acharya exempted none in his acknowledgment. All the sponsors & donors were the special people to be thanked. Sri Krishnamoorthy, Treasurer, thanked all the people, behind the success of this project. The programme came to an end, with due reverence to Poojya Gurudev by reciting the pledge.
