GEETA CHANTING COMPETITION – 2011
(Organized by Chinmaya Mission, Madurai)

Gita Chanting Competition Finals and Prize Distribution Function was organised by Chinmaya Mission, Madurai, on 6th November (Sun day) under the able guidance of Acharya Swami Sivayogananda, at Sethupati High School. The competitions are being organized consecutively, for the past 13 years, in Madurai.

This year 7059 children from 20 schools have participated at the prelims level, out of which 261 were short listed for the finals. The contest was open for all the students from L.K.G to Std IX, who were split into five categories... A, B, C, D and E...In Group A, all the participants who recited the portions completely, were given Certificates and mementos.

For group B semi-finals & the finals were conducted on 5th November (Saturday) at Chinmaya Mission and for the other Groups, the semi finals & finals were conducted at Setupathi High School, on 6th November (Sunday) and the winners were selected,

Gifts worth of Rs.1,000, Rs.750 and Rs.500 (Wrist watches and Chinmaya Publication Books), were awarded to the winners of I, II and III places, respectively. Participation Certificates and mementos were given to all the children.

In the morning, Smt. Kala Karmegam Mani, inaugurated the function, by lighting the Lamp and the Chief guest Sri P. Karmegam Mani, B.E., (Managing Director, Solaimalai Automobiles ) gave the inaugural address. Sri M.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, President, Chinmaya Mission, Madurai presided over the function.Sri. Thilagar, Secretary, welcomed the gathering. Smt.Kanchana Mala, coordinator, submitted the report.

The Prize Distribution Function, was organized in the evening.. The prizes were given away by Sri P.S. Janardana Bapu,B.Tech., MBA.,[ Pathey JB Foundation] and Sri S. Balaji, Dy.Tahsildar, [temple lands] . The participated Schools and the School Coordinators were honored with the Gifts and Shields. Acharya Swami Sivayoganada, explained from Mahabharata, the greatness of Bhagawan Sri Krishna and also on the greatness of the Chapter Eleven , in Bhagawath Gita. The objective of this contest was to ensure that the message of the Bhagawath Gita to reach the children, at their young age, he explained.

The Judges, Devi Group Members, Volunteers were honored with the mementos. Sri Gopalsamy, Secretary, thanked the Donors, Sponsors, Judges, School Managements, Teachers, Parents, Children, Guests and the members of the Mission, Chinmaya Devi Group,and Chyks , for the success of this grand finale. Lunch and Biscuits / tea, were arranged to the visitors.
